01What exactly is a matter?
A matter is one dispute, followed across every court it travels through. The same case as a trial-court suit, a High Court appeal and a Supreme Court SLP lives as one matter with a chain of proceedings — each with its own forum, case number, stage and status — so the whole history stays in one place instead of three disconnected files.
02Does one matter cover appeals and the Supreme Court?
Yes. Each proceeding links to the one it came from — a first appeal to the trial suit, an SLP to the appeal — forming the instance ladder. Your side can even flip from petitioner to respondent on the way up, and the matter tracks that. Everything below stays attached when the case moves higher.
03Can a matter have two live proceedings at once?
Yes, and it usually does. A decree can be under appeal in the High Court and under execution in the trial court at the same time, and a single proceeding can have several children — multiple execution petitions, for instance. The instance ladder is really a tree, and the matter holds all of its branches.
04How is this different from a to-do list?
It builds on the personal task spine everyone gets, and adds what a team needs on top: assigning work to others, review-and-approval before it goes out, and role-tiered visibility across the chamber — all attached to the matter, not floating in a chat.
05Is Manage Cases a billing or time-tracking tool?
No. It runs the work — matters, case teams, task allocation, review and clerk filings. Billing your clients is a separate module (Bill); Manage Cases is about who's doing what on which matter, and making sure nothing on it slips.
06How do clerks (munshi) fit in?
Filing runners and clerks get their own court-filing tasks — file the vakalatnama, collect a certified copy, serve a notice — assigned on the matter and tracked to done. What they capture flows straight back to the associate and partner, instead of living in a notebook.
07Who can see a matter, and can I keep one restricted?
Visibility is role-tiered and set per matter — the partner, the associate running it, the paralegal and the clerk each get their own view. A sensitive matter can sit behind an ethical wall, visible only to its named case team, down to the documents. Every proceeding under the matter inherits that same confidentiality.
08What is case intelligence?
The matter's own documents are read into a knowledge graph, so the parties are deduped and a chronology of key dates is built for you — the structured picture of the case, without assembling it by hand from the file.
09Do I need this if I'm a solo advocate?
Probably not on day one — it's built for chambers and firms with people to allocate work to. Solo advocates usually start with Vidhi (research) and Track Hearings, and add Manage Cases when they bring on juniors or a clerk.
